I'm not saying you shouldn't seek professional help if you need it. You deserve it to yourself if you do.
However, make sure they give you back all your kid's belongings. They did not return to my son's medication and a spare pack of contact lenses that they were keeping at the nurse's station. It has taken me OVER THREE WEEKS to resolve this. This has been the biggest disappointment. They should inventory everything these kids bring with them and cross check that inventory when they discharge someone. Problem EASILY solved.
We spent about 90 percent of the time staring at the wall honestly.
My teenage son was there recently in the acute treatment center. We have nothing but good things to say. We live in College Station and there is a behavioral hospital here...my son was there once, and it was a terrible experience (bad food, bad beds, rude staff). My son said that Cedar Crest is way better. The food is better, the beds are better, and the people were really nice to him. I felt like I got a lot of communication from the people at Cedar Crest as well, as opposed to the hospital in College Station. If you live in College Station and you need behavioral care for your teen, skip the local hospital and make the drive to Belton. It's only an hour and a half. Totally worth it. Very good care.
Another time i got yelled at for getting a spoon for a new kid because he had just gotten there and didnt know where anything was. She told me that i needed to treat her with respect after she had just finished yelling at me. She reported me to her boss when i told her she would have to give repect to get repsect from me. (Her boss ended up agreeing with me when i explained what had happened and decided not to punish me).
This place is like a jail. If you're not suicidal or dangerously aggressive, DO NOT COME HERE.
The worst thing though, was that they a fellow patient with absolutely NO PROBLEMS for nearly a week because someone lied that she was going to kill herself. In my time knowing her, it was very plainly obvious that whatever mental issues she had before were properly medicated and kept under control. It seems that her tenure there made her worse off than she came off, and I don't blame her.
I was told by one of the better staff members that they were undergoing a change in management, and thats why there were so many problems. So benefit of the doubt, maybe they are better now and fired off some of the terrible employees.
In general, they treated us like we were in prison honestly.
Great place. Helped me out a lot. Excellent food. Inpatient leaves a little to be desired but outpatient rocks.
I went here for a short period of time and the place was pretty terrible. Some of the staff were great but others were the absolute worst. I got into a argument with two of the staff members because they were telling a room full of depressed and suicidal teens that the needed to just "man up". I got defensive quick when i saw the look on some of those kids faces... after which the two staff memebers laughed at me for misidentifying them as nurses.
The activities are very poorly planned to the point where you spend most of the day sitting around watching movies or doing crossword puzzles. They won't allow you certain freedoms, like taking a blanket outside in the cold if you don't have a jacket. The regular doctor was extremely snide and kept me past the regular holding time, even though I was not suicidal or intending to do harm to anyone. At one point she insinuated that I was psychotic. I may have a lot of mental health issues, but psychosis is NOT one of them. The therapist is nice but almost forgets about you the second he leaves.
I'm just saying that this probably isn't the place to get that help
I think i only saw the psychiatrist once, and the one group therapy we had was a joke.
This is a horrible facility. My partner works here and is treat awful. They Don’t care in the slightest about their employees and they really don’t care about their medical limitations that come from working there. The directors are liars, manipulative, and will literally say anything to make their employees believe they are doing something bad. She was accused of things she didn’t do. She’s being forced to work in an environment she absolutely hates. Last but not least, she’s been hurt for the last three weeks and they don’t care, didn’t even try to see how she was doing. They also don’t take care of the facility for the kids properly. My family has called and reported it several times. So to say the least, DO NOT WORK HERE OR ALLOW YOUR KIDS TO BE PUT THROUGH THIS SPECIAL TYPE OF HELL!
